Be Our Guest: Your Guide to the Aruba Promise

Hello and Bon Bini ( Welcome). When you arrive at Eagle Beach, you are more than just a visitor. You are our guest. In Aruba, we invite every guest to join in the Aruba Promise.

What constitutes the Aruba Promise?

It’s a simple promise you can make before or during your trip. In short, it comes down to four main points:

  • Take care of the impression you make on the island.
  • Take it easy and move at the pace of the islands.
  • Act as a considerate and responsible guest by showing respect.
  • Please be careful so Aruba can stay One Happy Island for generations to come.

A destination doing things the right way

Aruba’s commitment to responsible tourism is getting worldwide attention. The short film "When You Love Aruba, It Loves You Back," part of the Aruba Effect campaign, was nominated for the 2026 Shorty Award in Brand Awareness. Aruba’s marketing also won a Gold Magellan Award from Travel Weekly.

What matters about this recognition is the idea behind it. Instead of just listing rules, the campaign shows that the relationship between visitors and the island is a two-way street—when you care for Aruba, Aruba cares for you. This is the spirit of the Aruba Promise and shows that Aruba values thoughtful tourism.

Why Aruba is worth protecting

Aruba is a small gem, about 70 square miles in size, located in the warm southern Caribbean, away from most hurricanes. That’s why the sun shines almost every day. But the real magic is in the people—nearly 100 nationalities live here and welcome visitors like old friends. That’s how Aruba earned the nickname One Happy Island.

Happiness is fragile. The soft white sand of Eagle Beach, the Fofoti trees shaped by the wind, the reefs, the wild donkeys, and the nesting sea turtles all need care. The Aruba Promise is the island’s way of asking guests to help protect these treasures. By traveling mindfully, you help preserve what makes Aruba special.

How to be a great guest during your stay

A few easy choices can make a big difference, and they’ll make your trip better too.

  • Watch wildlife from a distance. Enjoy the Fofoti trees, reefs, sea turtles, and donkeys without touching or feeding them. Leave shells and rocks where you found them.
  • Choose reef-safe sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. This kind is better for the reefs and is easy to find on the island if you need it.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle. Aruba’s tap water is clean and delicious—locals call it "Paradise on Tap." Instead of buying bottled water, refill your own bottle.
  • Go plastic-free. Aruba has banned single-use plastic bags, utensils, confetti, and similar items. If you can’t find a bin, hold onto your trash until you do.
  • Respect the land. The beaches and countryside are delicate and protected, so driving on the sand is not allowed. Please explore the island with care.Save water and energy. Ask housekeeping to change your linens once a week, turn up the air conditioning when you’re out, and switch off the lights.

Your pack-and-plan checklist

Take a screenshot of this checklist before you leave—it covers the whole promise in a simple way:

  • Reef-safe mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide)
  • A reusable water bottle for Aruba’s Paradise on Tap
  • A reusable tote or bag, since single-use plastic is banned
  • A few words of Papiamento: "bon dia" (good morning), "masha danki" (thank you)
  • Sign the Aruba Promise online and share it with #ArubaPromise
  • Leave shells, rocks, and wildlife just as you found them

Why it matters

Small actions add up. Moving rocks, feeding iguanas, or letting sunscreen get into the water might seem harmless, but with thousands of visitors, these things make a big impact. The Aruba Promise is the island’s way of protecting its people, wildlife, land, and water. By traveling mindfully, you help keep Aruba just as you found it.

Ready when you are

Enjoy slow mornings: greet the person pouring your coffee and leave the beach better than you found it. That’s the whole promise. We can’t wait to welcome you.
